Huge prizes in Zama-Zama Challenge

Teams from Giyani and the surrounding areas are currently engaged in the annual Zama-Zama Soccer Challenge.

The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony at the Giyani Stadium two weeks ago.

According to one of the organisers, Mr Joel Baloyi, thirty two teams have registered for the tournament. The champions will take home a cash prize of R10 000, floating trophy and gold medals. A cash prize of R5 000 and silver medals is waiting the second placed team. The teams that will finish the tournament in the third and fourth places will each receive a cash prize of R2 500.

According to Baloyi, the individual awards will be presented to the top goal scorer, player of the tournament, goalkeeper of the tournament, coach of the tournament and the best referee of the tournament.

The opening matches of the tournament were played at the Homu 14b KYD grounds on Monday this week. The semi-final matches will be played on the 29th while the final will be staged at the same venue on December 31.

KYD FC are the defending champions.

The teams that have registered for the tournament are: Siyandani Golden City, Junior Chiefs, Real Madrid, Olifantshoek Liverpool, Mapuve City Castle, Mhlokozi Fast Move, KYD FC, Khumbula All Stars, Vasco da Gama, Homu Fighters, Nyange Rollers, Mapayeni Gladiators, Mninginisi Citizens, Giyani All Stars, Nkhunyani Sunshine, Jackson Young Stars, Nkuri United, Mapuve All Stars, Skhunyani Home Leaders, Two for Joy, Barcelona, Gawula Movers, Makhosani FC, Ngobe Bombers, Juluka Benfica, Homu 14a Manchester, Jet Aces, Manombe Flying Boys, Ngobe Leeds United, Shitakati Rovers, Hatama Bust Eleven and Bay United.
