Merciless Silver Stars crush Dynamos

Sport  Date: 11 June 2004

GIYANI – Highlandspark Silver Stars finished their league programme on a high note when they brutally thrashed Dynamos 2-0 in their Castle Premiership League match that was played at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday.

Dynamos, whose fate as one of the Castle Premiership members was decided in that match, were fighting it minus six of their key players. The players whose contracts with the club expired at the end of last month include Siphiwe Mbambo, David Mathebula, Rodney Thobejane, Martin Carelse, Adam Majola and Adam Ndlovu.

On the other hand, Silver Stars also missed a number of their regulars, for the same reason. Nathaniel Maise, Surprise Moriri and Byala Mushadu are some of the Stars players who watched the game from the grandstand. Despite all the odds, the teams managed to display entertaining football from the onset to the bitter end.

The home side were controlling the proceedings in the middle of the park, but fumbled at the goal finish. Silver Stars took the lead in the 40th minute. Their captain, Dingaan Masanabo, and Francis Kombe initiated some duel moves in the middle of the park that ended in a goal. Kombe gave the final touch to the ball.

The score was still 1-0 at half time. The pride of Giyani introduced a defender, Isaac Leshabane, at the expense of their left-footed midfielder-cum-striker, Josiah Makamu, early in the second half. The Stars responded by replacing Michael Khaile with Tshilidzi Doboro.

The replacements worked against Dynamos, as they conceded another goal in the 78th minute. The goal came after a scramble for the ball within the box and a substitute, Keketso Mmotong, finished on a rebound. The Stars' left back, Oscar Ntoagae, was carried off the pitch after sustaining a knee injury, but he later recovered and continued with the game and joined others in their celebration for their victory after the final whistle
