While the other Absa Premiership League teams are on holiday due to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, the situation is totally different for Black Leopards.
According to the club’s general manager, Mr Samuel Khaphathe, it is business as usual in their camp.
As part of their preparations for the remaining part of the season, Leopards are now in the Tanzanian capital city, Dar Es Salam, for a training camp. They left the country on Monday and are expected to spend two solid weeks in that country.
Khaphathe revealed that they want to finish their league programme within the top-eight bracket, saying nothing will stop them from achieving their set goal. When asked whether the departure of the former team’s head coach, Mr Ian Palmer, would affect the team’s performance, Khaphathe said that the caretaker-coach, Mr Abel Makhubele, was a knowledgeable man.
Palmer’s relationship with the Limpopo outfit came to an abrupt end early this month. It did not take long for Palmer to find new employment as he soon joined the Cape Town-based National First Division side, Santos, as head coach.
When asked whether they were intending to beef up their current squad before the window for the registration of players closed at the end of this month, Khaphathe said that their current team was well balanced.
Leopards will play their next league match against Bidvest Wits at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, 13 February. Lidoda Duvha are currently lying in the 12th spot on the log with 17 points accumulated from 17 matches.
Although Leopards will play against an amateur side, Cape Town All Stars, in their last-32 match for the Nedbank Cup, Khaphathe said that they wouldl not underestimate them. The last 32 matches for the Nedbank Cup will be played over the weekend of 23 to 25 February.
