Province's U/21 netball side perform above expectations

THOHOYANDOU – The Northern Province North-Eastern U/21 netball squad put on a splendid performance during the inter-provincial championships that were staged in Stellenbosch last week.

Their opening match was against Free State Goldfields. The local team lost 21- 41 to the team from Free State. They played against Northern Natal in their second fixture, a match which they won 35-8.

They played two matches on their second day in Stellenbosch. They narrowly beat Griqualand West 28-27 and went on to collect more points when they crushed North-West Central 33-26.

Wednesday saw them donating points to South-Western Districts. The local team was trailing with 24 against 44 when the game came to an end. They again played two matches on Thursday. They won 40-31 against Northern Province West.

Their last Thursday fixture was against Southern Coastal Kwazulu-Natal, a match that they easily won 40-25. The teams were given time to rest on Friday before playing their crucial matches on Saturday. The domestic dolls won all their Saturday matches.

They walloped Northern Province Central 25-19 in their first match and beat the invincible Northern Free State 40-33 in their final fixture. All teams played nine matches and Northern Province Central were on top of the log at the end of the round-robin tournament.

Northern Province North East finished in third place, while Free State Goldfields were the runners-up.
