Mutoli Young Aces rose to the occasion and unexpectedly beat Themba Sunrise Riders 3-0 in their SAB League match at the Mutoti grounds on Sunday.

Sunrise Riders were out of touch throughout the first half, while the home side was in top form. The presence of Maranzhe Hungry Lions’ former allrounder, Lufuno “Umgababa” Ndou, was not good enough to stop Young Aces from scoring two early goals. Their opening goal was scored by Thabelo Mavhusha. As if they were hypnotised, the defenders of Riders watched like spectators as Mavhusha forced his way through them before unleashing a powerful volley that was too hot for the Riders’ keeper, Tshivhangwaho Mungoni, to handle.

Sunrise Riders continued to fumble within their own territory, despite the fact that they were trailing. That was the reason they conceded another goal only 16 minutes into the game. Walter Marima, who scored a brace in the game, made his presence felt when he scored with a ground cutter. He received a beautiful pass from Ndivhuwo Dama within the box and made no mistake.

Rhulani Baloyi of Young Aces was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He retaliated after he was tackled illegally by Tshifhiwa Mudau in the 29th minute. The score was 2-0 at half time.

Although Riders were good when it came to ball possession in the last half, it was difficult for them to find the net. Walter Marima completed his brace in the 67th minute after a scramble within the box.

Rodgers Mudau of Aces was given his marching orders for a verbal attack on the referee. Mudau was reprimanded with a card for a rough tackle. The caution was an insult to Mudau, who retaliated by telling the lone referee  "ni ndenwa", which translates as "you are spoiled".  The home side managed to maintain their 3-0 lead, despite the setback.
