After losing 1-2 to Martizburg United last Sunday, Black Leopards made amends and beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 in their Absa Premiership League match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Arrows took the game to the local lads, with their overlapping midfielder, Joseph Musonda, connecting some dangerous moves from the defenders to the strikers. Lidoda Duvha conceded four corner kicks within the first 15 minutes.
They started to play like a united team soon afterwards. Leopards’ top goal scorer, Rodney Ramagalela, could not believe his eyes when his ground cutter missed the target by inches in the 17th minute. Arrows almost opened their account in the 20th minute, but Ernot Dzaga cleared the ball from the goal line after his keeper, Azwinndini Maphaha, had already been beaten.
Leopards took the lead in the 30th minute. Their captain, Mongezi Bobe, dished up a neat pass to Edgar Manaka who passed the ball to Abbas Amidu. The Zimbabwean national scored his 4th league goal with a well struck volley, which he unleashed from inside the box.
With only four minutes before the half time whistle was blown, Leopards threatened to score again. Their left-footed midfielder, Raymond Monama, shot wide following a square pass from Edgar Manaka. Leopards enjoyed their 1-0 lead until the end of the first half.
The referee, Mr Daniel Volgraaff, warned Thapelo Sikhakhane of Golden Arrows with a card for an infringement to Abbas Amidu in the 48th minute. The game was 62 minutes old when Leopards scored their second goal. The captain, Mongezi Bobe received the ball from Monama within the box and blasted in a rocket.
Arrows replaced Bongi Ntuli with Lucky Ngitshana in the 68th minute. Bobe was reprimanded with a card for time wasting a few minutes later.
Arrows pulled one back through Jabulani Nene in the 86th minute.
