In their PIB MTG and Black Leopards KO Competition match at the Makonde Stadium on Saturday, Damani Powerline booked a place in the next stage of the competition by beating Tshitavha Arsenal 2-1.

Arsenal were strong in the middle of the park, but their strikers showed no appetite for goals.

The captain of Powerline, Avhavhudzani Mukundwa, was a thorn in the flesh of the defence of Arsenal. Mukundwa threatened to score in the 14th minute. He received a beautiful pass from Livhuwani Ramagwede, but his volley missed the target by inches. In the 19th minute, Powerline broke the silence. Rialivhuwa Phalanndwa made no mistake, following a neat pass from Khathutshelo Mafunise.

Arsenal gained momentum as the game progressed. Their overlapping midfielder, Elvis Mavhungu, came close to scoring in the 34th minute. He beat two defenders and unleashed a volley that went a little wide, much to the disappointment of the team’s fans. Arsenal retaliated four minutes before the teams adjourned for half time. Thabelo Muofhe was on target with a ground cutter to bring the half-time score to 1-1.

Three Powerline players, Khumbudzo Khothisa, Livhuwani Ramagwede and Solly Mutangwa, were cautioned with yellow cards for different infringements early in the last half. Powerline replaced Tsiruwani Dzialwa with Lawrence Daswa in the 60th minute.

The goal which separated the boys from the men came in the 79th minute. Avhavhudzani Mukundwa scored with a long-range volley.
