THOHOYANDOU – Residents of Thohoyandou and the surrounding areas will soon be able to watch Vodacom Promotional League matches on their doorstep. This follows the decision by the managing director of Mighty Football Club, Mr Mighty Tlale, to relocate the team to Thohoyandou.
The team has been based in Polokwane since its inception in the early eighties. According to Mr Tlale, his reason for lending the team to the Thohoyandou residents, is that his normal work is more demanding and that he does not have time to run his team.
Tlale is one of the senior security officers for Orlando Pirates Football Club. According to him, he is supposed to accompany the team wherever they play. He revealed that a certain group of people, who are based in Polokwane, had been running the team during the past two seasons, after he had realised that it was difficult for him to run it, due to work-related commitments.
What worried him most, was that his team had narrowly escaped relegation for two seasons in a row. That, to him, was a clear indication that the people who had been running it, were not capable of doing the job. He stated that he had more confidence in the people of Thohoyandou, that they would take his team to the highest level of football in the country within a reasonable period.
The team will use the Thohoyandou P East grounds as their homeground. Mr Tokyo Mukwevho has been appointed as the head coach for the team. The team started training at its homeground yesterday. Their first league game will be against Bosveld United FC and will be played in Zebetiela on August 31.
The new directors of team are Messrs Avhatakali Themeli, Livhuwani Mavhungu, Junior Muloiwa and the former managing director of Black Leopards Football Club, Zacharia Mathelemusa.
