TSHIFULANANI – The MMK League match between Tshifulanani Mighty Rock and Manchester United was not played to the finish.
The match was played at Tshifulanani ground on Sunday. Mighty Rock were leading with a goal at the time of the abandonment.
The game was evenly contested and there were signs of rivalry from the start. Mighty Rock missed numerous chances in the opening minutes while Manchester United was dictating terms in the middle of the park. The only player who was cautioned with a card was Rudzani Maladzhi of Manchester United.
Maladzhi came on as a substitute in the 25th minute. He kicked the keeper of Mighty Rock shortly after his introduction and the referee Nthangiseni Maiwashe was quick to flash a yellow card. The scoreboard was still blank when the teams adjourned for half time.
Mighty Rock approached the last half with more self confidence. The wheel of fortune turned in favour of Mighty Rock in the 55th minute. They were awarded a penalty. Takalani Mulaudzi converted it from the white spot.
The keeper of Mighty Rock was obstructed during a scramble within the box. The referee blew his whistle in trying to protect the lone keeper. The players of Manchester argued that the referee was blowing the whistle as an indication that they had scored a goal although the ball did not cross the goal line. The argument continued with Manchester maintaining that they would not go on with the game unless they were awarded a goal. This resulted in the referee blowing his last whistle.
