Benny's Care Sport Academy will represent Vhembe in the provincial finals of the U/12 Danone Nations Cup football tournament at the Westenberg Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday .
The matches will start at 09:00 and the final will start at 14:00.
The primary schools which will participate in the tournament are Bantoane (Sekhukhune Region), Thapola A Nkona (Mopani Region), Benny’s Sports Development Academy (Vhembe), Pula Madibogo (Capricorn) and Mphaka (Waterberg).
The manager of Benny's Care, Mr Richardt Sidebi, said they were happy with the way the team was gelling. "The boys are doing their best and I’m impressed with their perfomance."
Sidebi said their aim was to use the tournament as their stepping stone to the national championship. “Apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the competition, it is time for us to fulfil our promises,” Sidebi said. “We promised the fans and all the Vhembe residents that we want to bring home some silverware.”
Coach Mandla Dube of Bantoane Primary said the team had received tremendous support from the school principal and the teachers. “Just getting to the provincial finals has made a difference to the boys in terms of confidence and motivation,” he added.
Mr TC Maenetja, coach of Thapola Nkona Primary, said that the players were excited about going to the finals. “They talk as if they have already won. It shows the level of commitment that they have,” he said.
Pula Madibogo Primary School's coach, Mr Isaac Makgakga, said that the school had been participating in the competition since it began and this was their first provincial final. “I’m happy that I am the coach that made it possible for them to get this far in the competition this year. The boys are very happy about making it to the provincials. I hope that they will eventually get good results.”
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
