Western Stars completed their SAB League promotional playoff round-robin matches with a bang.
They brutally walloped Tshibvumo Young Stars 5-2 at the packed Tshifulanani Stadium on Saturday. Stars’ left flank, Percy Munonoka, scored a hat trick in the game. Munonoka was everywhere, making things difficult for the opponents in the middle of the park.
Western Stars opened their account in the ninth minute. Daniel Mukosi finished off a rebound after the ball hit the woodwork and bounced back into play. It was in the 19th minute when Western Stars increased the tally. Percy Munonoka caught the keeper, Aubrey Murathi, napping and beat him with a long-range volley.
Young Chiefs retaliated seven minutes later. Their speedy forward, Nkhangweleni Matshovhana, unleashed a rocket from the edge of the box, following a neat pass by Murendeni Ndou. Western Stars were forced to replace their keeper, Leonard Masala, with Dolphus Rambau after he had sustained a knee injury in the 29th minute.
Munonoka was on target again in the 38th minute. He hooked in the ball after a scramble within the box, to bring the half-time score to 3-1. Young Stars were awarded a penalty three minutes into the last half. Their keeper, Aubrey Murathi, made no mistake from the white spot.
Western Stars effected two more changes to their starting lineup. They introduced Hector Malange and Khuthadzo Rasikhuthuma for Daniel Mukosi and Rudzani Matumba respectively. Meshack Mudau of Young Stars was reprimanded with a card for a late tackle on Lufuno Ndou.
Thabo Matumba scored the fourth for Stars in the 74th minute, and Munonoka was on target again later in the game.
