Kremetart Cycling Race 2013

Rated as one of the best road races since 2003, the PPC Kremetart Cycle Race takes place from 8 to 9 June 2013, in the picturesque town of Louis Trichardt/Makhado, offering activities for the entire family, all ages and fitness levels.

With a total of around 10 000 visitors in 2012 and creating over R20 million in local business development for the Louis Trichardt community, the race continues to grow from strength to strength. PPC’s General Manager: Marketing Services, Sibongile Mooko says PPC is delighted to sponsor this event, as it offers cyclists and their supporters a unique opportunity to experience the beautiful Soutpansberg region.

“It is a serious race, but also a time for families to spend together and enjoy the great outdoors.” According to Stanley Thompson, PPC Kremetart Cycle Race Organiser from the P&L Cycling Club of Louis Trichardt, “There was huge success in 2012 and PPC made it possible for us to take the race to a new level. This year, we aim to streamline the event and focus on the development aspect within our communities. We salute everyone who has been involved in keeping this the best race in South Africa.”

The Kremetart consist of three races, Kiddies race (Saturday, 8 June), 175 km Cycle race - South Africa’s only one-day-four-stage race (Saturday, 8 June) and the cross country (Sunday, 9 June).

PARKING INFO

  • Parking blocks will be created at the Tourism Info Village. Each block will have its own toilets.
  • 24 hour security will be on site at the Tourism Info Village – special care will be taken for the safety of your parked vehicle and equipment.

DURING THE RACE:

  • Know your starting time and starting group
  • Listen to the commentator.
  • Remember the New CSA RULE – there will be a neutral zone at each start.
  • Although there are water points on route, make sure to carry your own water and or energy drinks.
  • On the 175km route take NOTE and care at the TUNNELS. Although there will be lighting inside the tunnels – remember to TAKE OFF YOUR SUNGLASSES.
  • Note the “cat eyes and potholes” on route, around the turns and even on the straight tar surfaces.

Take note: No vehicle will be allowed between cyclists. Vehicles travelling on the route should be either before or after the traffi c vehicles. Zero tolerance will be allowed to increase cycling safety. Remember that cyclists have the right of way. Therefore after all cyclists have passed (a sweeper vehicle will follow the cyclists) motorists should travel in the opposite direction and not follow the cyclists. Offenders will be taken off route and prosecuted.

AFTER THE RACE:

  • Participants crossing the finish line – collect your special medal at the Tourism Info Village.
  • Collect your refreshment voucher – use it in the Beer garden! Await your fellow racers, family and friends.
  • Enjoy a snack from one of many stalls.
  • Stay for prize giving, lucky draw and enjoy the famous potjiekos – and then the party starts!

TOG BAG TRUCK: A marked truck will be on route to transport your bag from start to finish, including stops at all the stopovers. Make sure to attach your tog bag number onto your bag.

THE TOURISM INFO VILLAGE

  • Ample secure parking will be provided for all at the Tourism Info Village.
  • Come join in the festival vibe!
  • The 70km, Fun Ride and Kiddies race will all start and happen in and around the Tourism Info Village. A cycling track, face painting, jumping castles and games will entertain kids for the duration of the weekend.
  • RADIO 2000 will broadcast live from the Tourism Info Village. Stalls and beer garden available all weekend.
  • The finishing line is within walking distance from the Tourism Info Village.

SUPPORTER’S BUS:
The best way for supporters to be part of the race is to book a seat on the supporter’s bus. This will depart from each point 20 minutes prior to the start of the next stage. Supporters can await and cheer on their friends, family or partners at the next fi nish line. Book your supporters’ seat on the website to avoid disappointment. If your supporters are not on the bus, they may not be on the route.
