Benny’s Care Academy was crowned as the champion of Vhembe during the final of the U/19 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup, which was played at Makwarela FNB stadium last Friday. They beat George Ntodeni High 5-0.
On 6 July, Benny’s Care will meet the winners from the other four districts in the provincial final, which will take place at the Giyani Stadium. The winner will later meet the other provincial champions. The Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup is an initiative co-funded by Sanlam, the Ubuntu-Botho Community Development Trust and the Motsepe Family Foundation. It is open to all high schools in South Africa. The national winner will walk away with R1,1 million, and R700 000, R500 000 and R400 000 for the second-, third- and fourth-placed schools respectively. Each provincial winner will receive an additional R100 000.
The coach of Benny’s Care, Mr Justice Matloga, says the competition is about pride and honour. “This is the fourth consecutive year that we have made it to the national finals. It is a statistic we are proud of and we want to keep the tradition going. We want to be the first team in Limpopo to win the tournament,” he said.
According to him, his players are very happy about making it to the provincials. “I hope that they will eventually get good results. The boys are doing their best and we have a good understanding.”
