Khubvi Peace Makers fought hard to earn a 5-4 victory at the expense of Khubvi Dangerous Darkies in their quarterfinal match in the Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Sunday.
Peace Makers suffered a setback three minutes into the game. Their natural goal scorer, Ipfi Muthubi, sustained an injury to his ankle and was replaced with Munei Mabidi. The keeper of Peace Makers, Rudzani Mbengeni, denied Darkies what everyone thought was a sure goal. He abandoned his position and advanced out of the box to block Rofhiwa Netshitungulu’s way.
The referee, Mr Rabelani Nemushungwa, was lenient enough to let Lufuno Singo of Peace Makers go away with a verbal warning in the 19th minute. Singo tackled Tsiko Tshivhase from behind.
Thembuluwo Tsilatsila of Peace Makers nearly found the net towards the end of the first half. He held onto the ball for far too long within the penalty area, until he lost possession. Thompho Mphuladzila of Dangerous Darkies was the first player to be booked. His sin was obstructing Fhatuwani Nemusumani.
The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out, following a full-time goalless draw. Peace Makers converted all five their chances via Avhatakali Tshavhungwe, Mukhethwa Ramakhomisa, Thembuluwo Tsialtsila, Phindulo Motsoare and Lufuno Singo, while Dangerous Darkies managed to score with four of their chances.
