Gogobole Home Defenders gave Maebane Peace Makers a Sunday to remember, when they hammered them 4-0 in their Limpopo Dairy match at the Gogobole grounds on Sunday.
Defenders meant business from the start of the match. Milingoni Tshimuka of Makers was yellow-carded when the match was five minutes old. He pushed Joshua Mulaudzi and was reprimanded by the referee.
The boys from Kutama did not give up without a fight, despite the setback. Tshimomo Mbambo beat all the defenders and the goalkeeper and finally scored easily in the 10th minute. Phathutshedzo Mashau of Defenders was booked for a late tackle on Peter Sinugo in the 34th minute.
Defenders found the second goal four minutes later. Brighton Phuravhathu made no mistake after receiving a neat pass from Tshilidzi Mphidi within the box and beat the offside trap to score. The half-time score was 2-0 in favour of Defenders.
The home team introduced Vusani Lithole for Joshua Mulaudzi in the 54th minute. Makers’ reliable midfield kingpin, Lucky Mashavha, received the ball at the edge of his own half and tried to pass it back to the keeper, but it was intercepted by Lutendo Phadziri.
Thabo Mudau scored his team's third goal in the 76th minute. After the goal, Makers regrouped and started to dictate terms. Makers raided the Defenders’ danger area continuously, but Lady Luck was not on their side. Their undoing was trying to walk the ball into the net, while the Defenders’ defence was solid.
The last goal of the match and fourth goal for Defenders was scored by Charles Phadziri from a free-kick to make the final score 4-0.
