Ngwenani Young Chiefs beat Maweja Takers FC 10-9 in the final of the Wafa-Wafa Soccer Tournament at the Tshakhuma Mulangaphuma grounds last Friday.

Although Maweja did not have enough time to rest after their semi-final against Makovha All Stars, they managed to match Young Chiefs pound for pound. They approached the game aggressively, with their midfielders demonstrating their rough skills.

Referee Eric Munyai did not allow them to go far with their unlawful tackles. After only nine minutes of play, Munyai flashed the first yellow card. Aluwani Mbedzi was booked for a late tackle on Tshilisanani Ratshibvumo. The situation came back to normal after the yellow card. The scoreboard was still blank when the teams adjourned for half time, despite numerous attempts by the visiting side.

Takers were the first to find the net. Chris Ratshibvumo, who came on as a substitute for Given Makgoto, was on target in the 47th minute. He finished off a rebound, after Rambuda Nekhudzhiga unleashed a ground cutter from within the penalty area.

The keeper of Young Chiefs, Maanda Tshifura, palmed the ball back into play and Ratshibvumo, who was in a perfect scoring position, made no mistake.

Young Chiefs were awarded a free kick outside the box in the 78th minute. Their captain, Tshifhiwa Ramatsea, scored from the set piece with a volley. The winner was determined through penalty shootout as the score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. Young Chiefs converted nine of their chances, while Maweja scored eight from the white spot.
