Young Chiefs the Wafa-wafa champs

Ngwenani Young Chiefs were crowned the champions of the Tshakhuma Wafa-wafa Soccer Tournament last Friday. The tournament was staged at the Mulangaphuma grounds.

Chiefs beat the hosts, Maweja Takers, 10-9 in the final. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 full-time score. Young Chiefs received R3 200 during a ceremony that was held at the grounds shortly after the final, while Maweja Takers received R800. The teams booted out in the semifinal stage of the tournament went home with empty hands.

The teams which could not make it to the final were United Artists and Makovha All Stars. United Artists were beaten 0-1 by Ngwenani Young Chiefs, while Makovha All Stars lost 7-6 to Maweja Takers in the second semifinal.

According to the general manager of Maweja Takers, Mr Mukondi Nemavhulani, their reason for staging the tournament was to put their newly recruited players to the test before the activities for the new season start in two weeks time.
