The only goal of the match was good enough to give Muziafera Blue Eagles a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bofulamato United in the final of the Vuwani Soccer Tournament at the Vuwani Mandani grounds on Sunday.
As if they were campaigning in the same division, Bofulamato gave their elder brothers a run for their money throughout the game.
The Eagles’ former Rospa United killer striker, Happy “Venture” Mahuntsi, was a pleasure to watch. He was everywhere, winning balls from behind and dishing out dangerous passes to the goal poachers time after time.
It took Blue Eagles 24 minutes to stamp their authority. It was Venture Mahuntsi who brought some smiles to the faces of the team’s enthusiastic supporters. He headed home, following a corner kick that was taken by Vusani Mashau.
Mashau was warned with a card for obstructing Tshilidzi Nepfumbada four minutes towards the end of the first half. Excellent Nekhavha of Blue Eagles was also booked for retaliating after he was tackled badly by Nthatheni Khorommbi.
Bofulamato United were all over Blue Eagles throughout the second half, but it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of Eagles. Blue Eagles were forced to effect two changes to their starting lineup in a bid to neutralize their opponents. They replaced Mukhethwa Mukoma and Lucky Tsharane with Matimba Vuma and Shandukani Mukoma respectively.
Two players of Bofulamato, Lufuno Ligugela and Kudani Mudavhi, were given their marching orders, following a continued argument with the referee.
