THOHOYANDOU – Local boxers were by far too strong for their opponents in the tournament that was staged at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday. The tournament was staged by the Tshiawelo Boxing Promotion in conjunction with the Venda Boxing Promotion.

Five thrilling bouts were seen during the tournament. The first fight was between Avhaathu Muleka and Phathutshedzo Dongola. The referee stopped the fight in the second round to save Muleka from Dongola's heavy punches that were falling like rain.

Thomas Malungane from Limpopo impressed everyone from the first round when he pushed his opponent, Ntakadzeni Mufamadi, into a corner for the better part of the first round. This fight was also stopped in the second round after Mufamadi's trainer threw in the towel.

The fight between Balanganani Ndou and Richard Khorommbi was fought to the finish. Ndou impressed the judges as he collected the majority of the points in the fight. Sakaria Mudau revealed his skill by beating Sefiso Msibi, despite the fact that Msibi had a height advantage. Mudau won the fight on points.

Nkosinathi Tshinavhe also beat Koos Matshiya on points in their bantamweight fight that lasted for six rounds. Nkosinathi Tshinavhe, Koos Matshiya and Phathutshedzo Dongola were nominated the best boxers in the tournament. They were each awarded with a traveling bag for their achievement. The tournament was sponsored by Coca-Cola and First National Bank.
