Matodzi High won the Vuwani Baso Foundation soccer tournament after they beat Davhana High in a penalty shoot-out. The match took place at Tshimbupfe last Wednesday.

Davhana’s scorers wasted numerous opportunities. Matodzi was strong at the far back and the striking force department, but they lacked cohesion in the middle of the park. The balls that threatened the defence of Davhana were ballooned from behind.

Khumbudzo Mabidi of Matodzi was booked for foul play.

The pride of Matodzi introduced a defender, Mpho Mudau, at the expense of Khathutshelo Rambau early in the second half. The replacement did not change the complexion of the match. Davhana came close to scoring in the 65th minute, but Moses Mafadza shot wide with only the keeper, Lutendo Mudau, to beat.

Matodzi's striker, Thuso Phandelani, beat three defenders of Matodzi in a row and shot wide from close range. Hulisani Muluvhu of Davhana received a yellow card, while Ndivhuwo Rambau was red-carded for a second bookable offence.

The match ended in a goalless draw and Davhana triumphed in the penalty shoot-out.
