The audited financial statement for the Safa Vhembe Regional Soccer Association, which was presented during the association’s annual general meeting at the Fig Tree Lodge in Shayandima last weekend, reflects that the league is in a good financial position.
When presenting the annual report for the executive committee, the head for administration, Mr Samuel Matodzi, confirmed that the league is now known as the MMK Funeral Services Soccer League. According to the report, the name change was necessitated by the fact that the company is sponsoring the association to the tune of R300 000.
During the meeting, it was also announced that five teams, Mianzwi Green Hornet, Mbilwi United Stars, Mushungwa United, Tshiungani Young Chiefs and Muthelo FC, had terminated their membership with the league during the course of the season, due to financial problems. Teams which were relegated to the lower league and those which had been promoted from the various local football associations were also announced during the meeting.
It was revealed during the meeting that the Makhado Local Football Association was still to submit the names of the clubs that will be campaigning in the MMK Funeral Services Soccer League.
The challenges which the league was facing regarding the management of women's football in the region were highlighted during the meeting. The annual report also revealed that 40 clubs appeared before the league’s disciplinary committee on charges ranging from assaulting match officials to causing the abandonment of games. According to the report, only three appeals were heard during the 2012/13 soccer season.
