The coach of Black Leopards, Mr Kostadin Papic, says he was impressed with his team’s performance in their opening NFD League match against Roses United.

Although it was an away fixture for them, Lidoda Duvha managed to come back home with a point in hand. They played to a goalless draw at the Kaizer Sebotlelo Stadium in the Free State last Saturday. In an interview with the Limpopo Mirror shortly after the game, Papic was quick to mention that his charges displayed entertaining football, despite the fact that they could not find the net.

In the other National First Division League matches played over the past weekend, Chippa United did the unexpected when they crushed Blackburn Rovers 4-2 at the Umthatha Stadium in the Eastern Cape. United took the lead in the fourth minute via Lawrence Seopa. They increased the margin seven minutes later through Edward Masuku, to bring the half-time score to 2-0. The home side pulled one back three minutes into the last half when Sam Kgobo’s shot hit the back of the net. Kgobo was on target again 10 minutes later. The visitors from Cape Town scored two more goals later in the game.

Jomo Cosmos drew 1-1 with United FC at the Makhulong Stadium in Johannesburg. As if they were going to bury the visitors alive, Cosmos took the lead in the eighth minute. It took United 87 minutes to find the equaliser.

Witbank Spurs collected the maximum points at the expense of Thanda Royal Zulu, whom they beat 2-1 at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Witbank. The rookies, Maluti FET College, lost by the same margin to African Warriors. Baroka FC shared the spoils with Sivutsa Stars at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
