Benny's Care Soccer Academy received more silverware last weekend. They were crowned the new provincial Copa Coca Cola U/15 champions, when they beat Phahameng High at the Jane Furse Stadium on Saturday.
The two teams played to a goalless draw, after which Benny’s won the penalty shoot-out 4-3.
Benny's was the superior side from the onset as far as possession of the ball was concerned. This resulted in their putting more pressure on the defence of their opponents for the better part of the match.
Realising that their midfield was performing below par, the technical department of the Phahameng introduced Frans Theledi for Solly Kgatla.
The second half was characterised by dangerous play from the home team's players. In an attempt to calm the situation, the referee flashed some yellow cards in quick succession. Ossey Domola of Benny's and Thabo Shiburi for Phahameng were booked for the application of dirty tricks and dangerous play.
As if they were hypnotised, the players of the Waterberg team were more spectators than players throughout the match. Thabang Moeng of Phahameng could not make the grade as the opponents used him as their freeway and the technical staff replaced him.
If a soccer match could be won through the number of scoring chances a team creates, Benny's would have won the match convincingly. Their strikers wasted many opportunities.
Benny's won R40 000 and they will represent Limpopo in the national championship, which will be played in Mpumalanga on the weekend of 16 October.
