Time is running out for the SAB League teams that are still to renew their membership with the Safa Vhembe Regional Association.
According to the league’s administrative officer, Mrs Nancy Ramaru, teams were initially given until last Friday, 30 August, to register, but the date was extended until next Tuesday, 10 September.
According to Ramaru, the extension for the due date was influenced by the fact that the kick-off date for the league activities for the new season was also rescheduled from this weekend to next weekend, 14 and 15 September. She stated that only 112 teams had renewed their membership with the league as of Monday this week.
She further indicated that the affiliation fee is the same as last season, saying teams must pay R4 500 in order to renew their membership. She reiterated the fact that teams that were owing the league money would not be allowed to renew their membership before they had settled their debts with the league.
She further stated that they were expecting 153 teams to affiliate this season. A total of 144 teams were affiliated with the league last season. The teams are divided into nine streams. The champions from the nine streams meet in the regional promotional playoffs to determine the regional champions.
The regional champions represent the region in the provincial playoffs and the top two teams in the provincial playoffs gain promotion to the Safa second division league.
