Makhitha Oscar Stars were too strong for Madombidzha Arsenal and beat them 1-0 in a Safa Vhembe MMK Insurance League match at the Madombidzha grounds on Sunday.
The boys from Kutama approached the match like a house on fire, with their midfielders distributing some telling passes to the strikers. They threatened to score in the early minutes when Baro Sebola forced his way through the defence of Arsenal. He passed the ball to Lucky Funyufunyu, whose attempt missed the target by inches.
The score was still nil-nil at halftime.
The second half saw Arsenal pressing hard in search of goals, but they failed to break the rock-solid defence of the opponents. Stars abandoned their positions and packed themselves at the far back.
Nthulani Luvhengo of Stars scored the only goal of the match in the 54th minute. He unleashed a powerful header from outside the box and the keeper of Arsenal, Rendani Maduwa, watched in disbelief as the ball hit the back of the net.
Mukondi Tshivhula and Jomo Mukwevho of Arsenal were cautioned by the referee for different infringements. The visitors brought on Takalani Mbekwa and Nthabiseng Makgopo, but their introduction did not change the complexion of the match.
