Luvhivhini High School received a donation of R102 000 from the National Lottery Board during a ceremony at the school a fortnight ago.

The money was used to buy numerous kinds of sports equipment, including soccer kits, netball kits, and volleyball kits, skipping ropes, chess sets, whistles, athletics gear, score boards, soccer boots, balls and cricket gear.

Teachers and pupils from the school expressed their appreciation for the equipment.  The sports organiser at the school, Mr Mashudu Mukhumeni, added that they would utilise the equipment to the benefit of all the pupils and the entire community.

The chairperson of the Lottery Board, Prof Alfred Nevhutanda, said the objectives of the programme were to instil important values at schools through participation in sports. It will also increase the physical, emotional and intellectual potential of the scholars and promote better health and an active lifestyle.

He added that it was sad that most rural children did not have entertainment activities after school. “This equipment will help to take the children off the streets and bring them to the sporting fields.”
