Huge prizes in Land of Legend Marathon

THOHOYANDOU - Huge prizes can be won in the Old Mutual land of Legend Marathon that will be staged tomorrow (Saturday, April 13).

The winner of the men’s open category in the 42,2 km will go home with a cash prize of R1 500. The second and third placed athlete in the same category will take home R750 and R500 respectively.

Athletes who will finish 21,1 km men’s open category in the first three positions will be given cash prizes ranging from R750 down to R250 respectively. The winner in the 42,2 women open category shall win an amount of R1 000.

The winners in the veteran women, masters men and masters women categories will each win an amount of R500 while the grandmasters in each section will take home the first prize of R300. The 42,2 km marathon will start at the Thohoyandou Stadium while the starting point for the half marathon will be at the Thathe Vondo Dam.

The first twenty-five athletes in each category to arrive at the finishing point will be given gold and silver medals while all finishers will take home bronze medals without considering their finishing positions. All first 250 finishers per race will be given T-shirts.

Refreshments will be made available at every 3 km distance while first aid will only be available at the starting and finishing points. The marathon will start at 06:00. The prize giving ceremony will be held at the finishing point, Mphephu Resort starting at 11:30.
