Last Saturday was a memorable day for one of the Vhembe-based Safa Second Division League sides, Joe’s Express FC. Not only did they deposit the maximum points into their league account, but they also registered a historic victory. They brutally doomed Basel FC 7-0 at Makwarela.
As if they are not campaigning in the same division, Basel were down and out from the onset to the bitter end. Joe’s Express stamped their authority two minutes into the game. Rendani “Dzebe” Madega received a neat pass from Thembisani Nevhulamba and beat the keeper with a close-range shot. Juliet Ngubane was on target in the 10th minute after forcing his way through the defence of Basel.
Thembisani Nevhulamba of Express was warned with a card. He was engaged in a heated debate with the referee over some of the match official’s decisions. Pfariso Mukoma scored the third goal for Express nine minutes before the end of the first half to bring the half-time score to 3-0.Thembisani Nevhulamba initiated a solo move from the 25-meter area before beating the keeper with a half-volley.
As part of their many ways to solidify their ailing squad, Basel introduced Khethani Gabara and Robert Tshabedi for Nhlaulo Mathebula and Takalani Netshitungulu respectively. That did not serve any purpose as Joe’s Express continued to dictate the terms. The fifth goal was scored by Thembisani Nevhulamba in the 55th minute.
Pfariso Mukoma scored the sixth for Express with a long-range ground cutter. He received a great pass from Nndateni Netshitadi and tried his luck from outside the box. Joe’s Express again replaced Rendani Madega with Lenock Mabila. Mabila made his presence felt when he scored his team’s seventh goal three minutes before the final whistle.
