Rospa United gave away league points to Mighty FC, who beat them 3-1 in their Safa Second Division League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.
The first half was characterized by wasted scoring opportunities, despite the fact that no goal was seen within the first 45 minutes. The absence of Kenneth Lesia in United’s starting lineup was evident from the onset.
The visitors from Polokwane were the first to blow the trumpet. Kgomotso Selemela forced his way through the defence of United and blasted in a close-range rocket. The referee, Mr Roy Mulaudzi, flashed the first yellow card in the 54th minute. Lehlokgonolo Sebanyoni of Mighty tackled Zanempi Methula from behind and the referee was lenient enough not to give him his marching orders.
United's solitary goal came in the 64th minute. Zanempi Methula tried his luck from outside the box with a left-foot ground cutter. As if he was a spectator, the keeper of Mighty, Thabiso Khumalo, watched as the ball hit the back of the net.
The only change which Mighty made to their starting lineup was when they introduced Loyd Dlangamandla for Sbusiso Khumalo. United used all three their substitution chances. Their captain, Mashudu Mashapha, was replaced with Lungelo Malinga while Lufuno Ligugela and Kenny Mathole came on for Bheki Sukazi and Norman Legari respectively.
Vusimuzi Miya scored the second goal for Mighty in the 69th minute. His long-range volley hit the crossbar and bounced across the goal line. Rospa were awarded a penalty after a defender of Mighty, March Skhosana, handled the ball within the box. A substitute, Lungelo Malinga, caused an upset by shooting wide from the white spot.
Rospa United lost hope after missing the penalty. That gave Mighty a good chance to score their third goal. An overlapping defender of Mighty, March Skhosana, hooked the ball in after a scramble within the box.
