Maebane Aces United played their hearts out to hold Mabilu FC to a 3-all draw in their Limpopo Dairy league match at Madodonga on Sunday.
The match started at a fast pace, with both sides threatening to be the first to hit the target. Mabilu opened the scoring in the 10th minute. United’s keeper, Minijaar Masipa, was left flat-footed by Matome Masipa. United missed a fortune in the 17th minute, when a header by Lufuno Luvhengo went a little wide. The half-time score was 1-0 in favour of Mabilu.
The match turned lukewarm early in the second half. This was influenced by the fact that both sides were holding onto the ball for too long.
United then scored through Velaphi Mphaphuli. He received a neat pass from Mashudu Nkomo and released a powerful shot from the edge of the box to bring the score to 1-1. After the goal, the match flowed at a high pace.
In the 54th minute, Mabilu's Tshivhade Nthulane grabbed his second goal, after he headed in a free kick by Thato Mothegedela. United equalised when Doctor Ratshibaya tried his luck from outside the box. The celebration was, however, cut short when Khuliso Mphidi of Mabilu scored his team’s third goal.
Velaphi Mphaphuli of United scored the equaliser when he received the ball from the centre line and passed it to the advancing Ramunna Makhokha. Ramunna passed it back to Mphaphuli, who was on target again.
