Brothers and United in goalless draw

Sport  Date: 07 February 2014

In their MMK Funeral Services League match at the Tsianda Gwamasenga grounds on Sunday, Gwamasenga United Brothers rose to the occasion and held the much-feared Tshakhuma RO United to a goalless draw.

RO United soon realised that it would be a difficult day at the office when their leading goal scorer, Lufuno “CJ” Mugodi, fumbled at the goal finish. He received a neat pass from Ndivhuwo Makhado within the box and shot wide with the stranded keeper, Rudzani Mmbengeni, already beaten. Mugodi committed a similar blunder a little later. This time around, he failed to connect Lucky Ndou’s square pass.

Aluwani Mundalamo, Brothers’ centre back, was lucky to get away with a yellow card. He obstructed Lufuno Mugodi at the edge of the box in a one-on-one situation, denying Mugodi what could have been a goal. The referee did the unexpected when he flashed a yellow card at a time when everyone thought he would give Mundalamo his marching orders.

Brothers threatened to score for the first time in the 37th minute. Ipfi Muthubi received a beautiful pass from his captain, Ntambudzeni Mundalamo, and unleashed aimlessly from close range. They replaced Aluwani Mundalamo with Oupa Rambuwani early in the second half. Lufuno Mugodi of RO became a laughing stock in the 78th minute. He won a loose ball from the left corner and ran few steps towards the goals before beating the keeper. He caused an upset, however, when his shot hit the woodwork and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick.

Alugumi Mulaudzi of United Brothers was booked for a late tackle late in the game.
