United Artists have reason to celebrate. They collected six points over the past weekend.
Artists brutally walloped Tshififi FC 6-0 on Saturday and they beat Thembaluvhilo Seven Stars 1-0 in their MMK Funeral Services League match at the Tshivhulani grounds on Sunday.
Sunday’s match was a real battle. Artists meant business from the first whistle. They threatened to score in the ninth minute. Their captain, Jeffrey Mungoni, could not believe his eyes when his close-range volley missed the goal mouth by inches. Artists’ keeper, Foster Makhwanya, was put to the test in the 19th minute. Vhutshilo Mawela tried his luck from outside the box. The lone keeper braved the shot and executed a brilliant save.
The keeper’s effort boosted the team’s morale as United Artists took the game to their opponents soon afterwards. It did not come as a surprise when Artists scored their all-important goal in the 28th minute. It was their captain, Jeffrey Mungoni, who made things happen. Mungoni finished off a rebound after Vuwani Masakona’s shot hit the woodwork and bounced back into the field of play. Mungoni, who was in the perfect scoring position, beat the stranded keeper with a half-volley.
Both sides effected two changes to their starting lineups early in the last half. United Artists introduced Mushe Luvhimbi and Takalani Mulaudzi for Maanda Mulaudzi and Given Mufamadi respectively. Stars responded by replacing Ronewa Rammela and Ndindeleni Nkhumeleni with David Tambani and Sathiel Mawela in the 57th minute.
The referee, Mr Rabelani Nemushungwa, flashed the first yellow card in the 60th minute. Vhutshilo Mawela of Seven Stars was warned for obstructing Vuwani Masakona. Seven Stars pushed forward in their search for the equalizer as the game progressed, but it was not their day.
