Mpheni Home Defenders collected the maximum points when they beat Tshiozwi Dynamos 1-0 in an MMK Insurance Brokers league match at Tshiozwi on Sunday.
Dynamos approached the match like a house on fire, with their midfielders distributing telling passes to the strikers. They threatened to score in the early minutes when George Phungo forced his way through the defence of Defenders before passing the ball to Maanda Nengovhela. His attempt missed the target by inches.
Ndaedzo Phalandwa of Defenders scored his team's goal in the 34th minute from a free kick, after Panwell Sithole was brought down by a Dynamos defender, Vicky Mulaudzi. He unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box and the keeper of Dynamos, Vhuthuhawe Netshiombvani, watched in disbelief as the ball hit the net.
Mirila Mabasa and Muhangwi Mukosi received yellow cards for different infringements. The home team brought on Tsie Nndwambi and Zane Mulaudzi for Maanda Nengovhela and George Phungo respectively. Their introduction did not change the run of the match, as their opponents were rock solid at the backline.
Dynamos should have equalised late in the match, but their chance was denied by the acrobatic goal keeper, Rinae Salani, who palmed the ball out for a corner kick.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality.
