THOHOYANDOU – Not only did Black Leopards collect full points at the expense of Wits University Football Club last Saturday, but they also dented the Clever Boys' good image. Wits had gone 14 matches without defeat, before falling victim to Lidoda Duvha in Thohoyandou last Saturday.
The defeat has narrowed the students' chances of winning the league championship as they now have 49 points in hand after playing 27 matches. They are in the third spot. The top two teams, Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates have each played 26 matches. Pirates are leading the pack with 53 points. Lamontville Golden Arrows follows close in the fourth position with 48 points gained from 28 matches.
Supersport United who were on top of the log at the beginning of the season have moved down to the fifth spot.
Below them is Kaizer Chiefs Football Club who, have collected 43 points so far. Chiefs have three league matches to play before wrapping up their league activities. Dynamos, who are faced with a mammoth task of beating Black Leopards this weekend, are perched in the seventh spot.
They have 40 points in their league account. African Wanderers are still languishing at the bottom of the log and only a miracle can save them from relegation. They have accumulated 18 points from 27 matches. The other relegation candidates are Bush Bucks and Ajax Cape Town while Hellenic and Black Leopards seem to be on the safe side.
