MALUMULE- The long pending protest case between Gezane Arsenal and Winnerspark Football Club was struck off the roll during the Vodacom Promotional League's disciplinary committee meeting that was held in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The matter dates back to the beginning of the season when Arsenal played Winnerspark Football Club in their league match at the Bellevue grounds. During the match Winnerspark Football Club fielded a suspended player, Godfrey Mashau. Gezane lodged a protest with the referee. Mashau was suspended for three games towards the end of last season. He was supposed to have served his suspension at the beginning of the current season. Instead of forgetting about him for three matches as ordered by the disciplinary committee, Winnerspark fielded the player in all their matches including their last Saturday's fixture against Chomachoma Football Club, a match that Winnerspark won 2-0.
During Sunday's sitting the disciplinary committee decided to struck the case off the roll provisionally saying that they would like to establish the integrity of the previous committee that suspended the player. During an interview with the league manager Mr Peter Mathekga stated that he was not happy with the manner in which the case was treated.
He reiterated the fact that it was not the competency of the committee to look at the integrity of the previous disciplinary committee but instead they were there to look at the protest lodged by Gezane Arsenal. He further stated that such kind of rulings dent the image of the league as a whole. According to him Arsenal have already filed an appeal against the committee's ruling.
