Tshibvumo Young Stars were crowned the 2014 Ward 29 Easter Tournament champions at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Monday after they beat Tshilulu Mighty Mangoes 2-1 in the final.

Young Stars received a cheque of R3 500 during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final. Mighty Mangoes received R2 000. The third-placed side, Thenzheni Liverpool, became R1 500 richer, while R1 000 was presented to Tshidimbini Brave Lions, who finished in fourth spot.

Eight teams, Thenzheni Liverpool, Tshidimbini Brave Lions, Tshilulu Mighty Mangoes, Damani Powerlines, Luvhimbi Wanderers, Khubvi Dangerous Darkies, Tshibvumo Young Stars and Mutshini Soccer Masters, took part in the tournament.

Tshibvumo Young Stars beat Tshidimbini Brave Lions 1-0 in the semifinal match which was played at the same venue earlier that day. Tshilulu Mighty Mangoes’ way to the final went via Thenzheni Liverpool, whom they narrowly beat 6-5. The winner in the match was determined through penalty shootout after a 1-1 full-time stalemate.

In their losers’ final match, Thenzheni Liverpool beat Tshidimbini Brave Lions 1-0 to finish in the third spot. A local resident who chose to remain anonymous sponsored the tournament.
