GIYANI – Two local teams have increased their chances of gaining promotion to higher leagues this weekend. Dynamos, who are aiming for promotion to the country's elite league, beat Dobsonville All Nations 2-1 in a Premier First Division League match that was played at the Giyani Stadium on Saturday.
It was also announced that Winnerspark Football Club are the champions for the Limpopo Province Stream of the Vodacom Promotional League. Although the Bellevue-based team has two league matches to play before they wrap up their league activities, it is a sure thing that they have already booked a place in the promotional play-off matches, which will be played in Port Elizabeth next month.
The Dynamos game started at a blistering pace with the home side retaining superior ball possession. Although Dynamos were firing from all angles in the opening minutes, Dobsonville All Nations did not give in without a fight.
Realising that the home team was threatening to be the first to blow the trumpet, All Nations changed their original pattern and started to initiate moves from behind. They could reap no benefits from their efforts, as it was difficult for them to find their way through the rock-solid defence of Dynamos.
The wheel of fortune turned in Dynamos' favour when their Zambian international, Isaac Mumba, finished off a cross from David Mathebula in the 25th minute. The team from the Lowveld enjoyed its 1-0 leadership until the end of the first half.
The only player who went into the referee's book was Josam Ndou of Dynamos. He tackled Elijah Lekalaka illegally. Soul Chipa later replaced Ndou.
Dynamos' second goal was scored by Lifa Qosha, eighteen minutes into the second half. He received a neat pass from Isaac Mumba and made no mistake.
The boys from the Reef their own back three minutes before full time. Jerry Sono capitalised on a sweeping error and released a ground cutter that left the Dynamos keeper, Silver Chabalala dumbfounded.
In spite of the fact that they have already booked a place in the promotional play-off matches, Winnerspark Football Club crushed Bankuna Big XV 3-0 in their Vodacom Promotional League match played at the Bellevue ground on Saturday.
Winnerspark have 73 points in hand. They have lost only one of the 28 matches they have played to date. Gezane Arsenal are in the second place with 63 points. Arsenal were leading the pack at the beginning of the season and moved down the ladder after dropping numerous points in succession.
TM Napoli have moved to the third spot on the latest league log. This follows their 2-0 victory over their neighbours, Dolphins Football Club. Napoli have deposited 55 points into their league account so far. Below them is Kiwi Double Seven.
Double Seven, who were one of the hot favourites for the league title at the beginning of the season, have 54 points in hand. They are tied with Chomachoma Football club with the same number of points. The defending champions, Sisterpark FC, are currently lying in sixth place.
