Local polocrosse enthusiasts took part in a groundbreaking polocrosse tournament held during the Windpompfees at Mookgophong from 1 to 3 May.

The tournament was hosted by the Limpopo Crusaders Polocrosse Club of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and players from Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Limpopo attended in four different divisions. For the Limpopo team, it was their first big tournament since their recent launch as a full province in the polocrosse discipline.

The event was also graced by the presence of Wessel Strauss, who is not only the president of the International Polocrosse Association, but also the secretary-general of the South African Equestrian Federation. South African national umpire Gavin Flowers was also present to train and grade umpires.

Junior and senior teams from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) that competed in this tournament faced some strong competition, but still managed to clinch several top podium positions.

The winners of the A-division were the JoJo-Tankers, which consisted of Dawnay Jacobs, Sheryl James and Chris James, closely followed by the Timbercity Hotshots, made up of Ross Beukes, Barend Dafel and Megan Soal.

The B-division was won by the Toyota Coyotes, consisting of André Venter, Veruska Pretorius and Rudi Vorster. The runners-up were the Premjee Jetters which were Josh Wilkinson, Marique Wilkinson and Thiaan Volschenk.

The C-division winners were Francois Koekemoer, Theunis Linde and Robin Claassen of Northgate Diggers, followed by runners-up Adam’s Apple Gobblers, consisting of Shelby Vorster, Zanel Brits and Lena Lubbe. 

In the junior division, Courtney Sparrow, Jamin Schuch and Matthew Taylor of the JoJo Pocket Rockets came out tops, followed by the team of Fruit & Veg Sprouts (Thabea Schuch, Christiaan Volschenk and Savannah Sparrow) in second place. Ishtvan Schuch also won the junior division Best Playing Pony award.
