Vhembe FET College FC came back from a 0-2 deficit and beat Mphego Real Rovers 3-2 in their MMK Funeral Services League match at the Mphego grounds on Saturday.
Rovers approached the game aggressively, with their strikers showing a great appetite for goals. David Munyai of Rovers was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Lufuno Mbulaheni from behind just outside the penalty box. Real Rovers were leading with a goal at half time. Their opening goal came in the 35th minute. Khethani Tshisikule scored with a header after a corner kick that was taken by Paul Nemavhola.
Rovers were the first to effect a change to their starting line-up. They replaced Vele Mahalihali with Vuledzani Ntsieni in the third minute of the second half. Vuledzani Ntsieni formed a deadly combination with Khethani Tshisikule at the forefront.
The Mphego team increased the margin in the 54th minute. Vuledzani Ntsieni was on target after intercepting a back pass. The students did not lose hope despite trailing by two goals. They reduced the margin in the 67th minute. Haddon Manena headed home after a corner kick by Tshiwela Ratshibvumo.
Rovers lost shape in the middle of the park after the opening goal for Vhembe. They even introduced Ndivhuwo Sadiki for Fulufhelo Mulaudzi as part of their many ways to neutralize their opponents. Moses “Jack” Razwimisani scored the second for Vhembe after a scramble within the box.
Vhembe replaced Tshimangadzo Netshishivhe with Pfunzo Razwimisani. Ntsieni Vuledzani of Rovers caused an upset by shooting wide from close range. Mulweli Malada was on target in the 84th minute to bring the full time score to 3-2. He finished off a rebound after Rudolph Sithole tried his luck from outside the box.
