Madombidzha Western Stars were confirmed as champions of the MMK Insurance Brokers Stream E after they beat Tshiozwi Dynamos 2-1 in a tough league match at Madombidzha on Sunday.

The boys from the Tshiozwi outfit approached the match like a house on fire, with their midfielders distributing telling passes to the strikers. They threatened to score seven minutes into the match, when Mpho Mavhandu forced his way through the defence of Stars, before passing to Mashudu Nengovhela. His attempt missed the target by inches.

Stars missed two clear chances in the 30th and 34th minute. Maanda Magoro shot wide from close range, after receiving a good pass from Phumudzo Mafukata. Magoro caused another upset four minutes later. He released aimlessly from outside the box, much to the disappointment of the supporters. The scoreboard was still blank at half time.

In the 57th minute, Bennet Mamaila unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box. Dynamos' keeper, Vhuthuhawe Netshiobvani, watched in disbelief when the ball beat him.

Dynamos lost shape in the midfield and Stars capitalized to score their second in the 76th minute. Thabo Mamburu dribbled past three defenders in a row before he released the shot. A defender of the opponents, Mirila Mabasa, handled the ball inside his penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Bennet Mamaila converted the ball into a marvellous goal to make the score 2-0.

After the goal, Stars pressed hard in search of more goals. Realizing that their chances were slim, Stars abandoned their positions and packed themselves at the far back. Mpho Mavhandu scored the only goal of his team in the 78th minute after beating the off-side trap.

Nyathi Muvhango of Dynamos was red-carded for a second bookable offence when he argued with the referee.
