ITSANI - Pandemonium broke out moments after the end of the league match between Itsani MS Newlook and Sterkstroom Real Chiefs, which was played at Itsani on Sunday.

According to fans, the game was of a high standard, with both teams playing like professionals. Chiefs emerged winners by three goals to two.

A nasty incident occurred moments after the end of the match. According to the referee, after the game there was unruly and barbaric behaviour, “instigated by hooligans who are said to be fans and supporters of MS Newlook.” He said angry people from Itsani hurled stones into the vehicle of the Real Chiefs.

According to Chiefs' report, the chairperson, Mr Edward Mugwedi and Richard Tshivhandekano were seriously injured and were taken to hospital after the incident. The report also stated that most of their supporters were seriously injured.

Newlook regretted the incident and apologised to Chiefs and the league. They claimed that the perpetrators are not fans of the club. They said their members were engaged in a meeting when the incident occurred. "The hooligans are not even supporters of our team," a spokesperson said.

“We are prepared to help the league to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book," he said.

Mrs Nancy Tshikumbane acknowledged that she received reports from the three parties about the incident. She told Mirror that it was not the first incident that happened where Chiefs were attacked. It happened at the same venue during the previous soccer season.

According to Mrs Tshikumbane, MS Newlook had the responsibility of making sure that the visiting team and the referee are protected inside and outside the ground. She condemned the unbecoming behaviour by the people of Itsani. According to her, Newlook will be summoned to account for what happened. If they are found guilty, they may forfeit their home ground advantage to another ground, she said.
