The much-awaited final of the MTG Soccer Challenge will be staged at the Makwarela Stadium next Monday, June 16.
Vondwe United Brothers and Begwa United Brothers have qualified for the match.
Vondwe beat Cobra Stars 2-0 in the semifinal at the Khubvi Benjies grounds last Sunday, while Begwa’s way to the final went via Mutale Vikings, whom they beat 2-0 at the same venue last Sunday.
The programme for the day incudes the losers’ final match between Cobra Stars and Mutale Vikings, which will kick off at 13:00. The final is set to start at 15:00.
The winners of the final will receive a cash prize of R15 000, a floating trophy, soccer kit and gold medals, while a cash prize of R5 000, soccer kit and silver medals are awaiting the team that will finish in second position. The third-placed team will take home a cash prize of R3 000 and the members will also receive a new soccer kit.A soccer kit, accompanied by a cheque to the value of R2 000, will be given to the team booted out in the losers’ final.
The four teams that lost in the quarterfinals will each receive a consolation prize of R1 000. They are Banyini Flying Swallows, Arsenal FC, Shadani Dangerous Scorpions and Themba Heroes.
The defending champions, Phaphazela Real Hexagon, were booted out of the competition in the last-32 stage. One hundred and thirty-two teams took part in this year’s competition.
