Madombidzha Western Stars donated league points to Mukula Santos in the MMK Insurance Brokers match played at Makwarela FNB Stadium on Saturday. The final score was 2-0 in favour of Santos.
The match started at a fast pace, with both sides throwing caution to the wind with their fiery play. Stars’ scorers wasted numerous opportunities. Santos was strong at the far back and the striking force department, but they lacked cohesion in the middle of the park.
The Madombidzha lads timed their passes to perfection, but lacked power. Percy Munonoka, left flank of Stars, received a beautiful pass in the 24th minute. His shot went astray. Four minutes later, Ndoza Takalani of Santos received a golden opportunity and disappointed everyone when he shot straight at the stranded keeper.
Stars initially showed a spirit of commitment, but their original stamina vanished and their back-line started to leak. Santos's first goal came in the 35th minute. Joshua Netshilindi scored after receiving a square ball from Maanda Munyai.
Stars had their first taste of bad luck in the 36th minute, when Phumudzo Mafukata shot into the hands of the opponents' keeper from the penalty area. Santos increased the score line towards the end of first half when Thuso Ramukumba scored from a free kick.
Santos gained momentum as the game progressed. It was in the 76th minute that their lethal striker, Lufuno Ndou, missed a fortune.
