Rockers in hot water for “daylight witchcraft”

Rockers FC will soon appear before a disciplinary committee of the MMK Funeral Services League after an incident in the match between Rockers and Mukula Young Santos at the Makwarela Stadium a fortnight ago.

The score was 1-1 at the end of regulation time and the winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out. Young Santos eventually won the match 4-2.

According to our reporter at the scene, it was evident from the start that something strange was going to happen as fans of both teams were spotted before and during the game sprinkling what is believed to be muti on the pitch.

The situation took an ugly turn after Young Santos converted their first two chances from the penalty spot, with the Rockers’ players shooting wide. An alleged fan of Rockers then advanced onto the pitch with a plastic container with some liquid. The fan started sprinkling the substance all over the goal area before proceeding to the referee, Mr Jelly Chabani, who was standing at the edge of the penalty box. He then started to sprinkle the unknown substance around the referee.

Chabani tried to run away in order to avoid the fluid, but it was too late as his head and face were already wet at that stage. He collapsed on the pitch shortly afterwards, complaining about itching eyes and dizziness and saying he could not see anymore. The paramedics then treated Chabani and the game stopped for about 15 minutes. After receiving medical attention, Chabani allowed Rockers to take their final penalty and Vhonani Munyai’s shot was saved easily. Chabani continued to receive medical attention from the paramedics after the game.

All the football lovers who were interviewed by Limpopo Mirror on the incident condemned it in the strongest terms. “That is daylight witchcraft,” said an angry football referee, who wished to remain anonymous. The chairman of the competition’s committee, Mr Mulimisi Muneri, also expressed his disappointment about the incident, saying incidents of that nature brought both the league and the sponsors into disrepute. Muneri told the Limpopo Mirror that a disciplinary committee would convene soon to investigate the issue.
