Tshaulu Powerlines are the 2014 Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge champions. They beat Dimani Young Masters 6-5 in the final of the competition at the Tshifudi Stadium on Saturday.
Powerlines received R2 500, a floating trophy and a complete soccer kit during a ceremony at the stadium after the final. The runners-up, Dimani Young Masters, received a soccer kit, while Hlengani Simango of Powerlines was nominated the best player in the tournament. Simango was the top goal scorer, with four goals in the tournament.
Tshaulu Powerlines beat Mahagala Young Stars 3-2 at the same venue two weeks ago to secure a place in the final, while Young Masters’ way to the final went via Tshaulu Soccer Academy, whom they beat 1-0.
During the ceremony, the sponsor, Mr Boy Nemakonde, revealed that he was impressed by the manner in which the tournament was run from the start. He indicated that he will continue to sponsor the competition in the coming years, saying the sponsorship amount will increase from time to time. According to him, this year’s tournament was sponsored to the tune of R50 000.
Eight teams, Tshaulu Powerlines, Mahagala Young Stars, Dimani Young Masters, Tshaulu Soccer Academy, Munangwe United Brothers, Begwa United Brothers, Lukalo Hotspurs and Duvhuledza Flamingos, took part in the tournament
