From Cape Town and back on a bicycle

He left Cape Town on Tuesday, May 25, on a journey that took him thousands of kilometres around the country on his bicycle. It was a journey that saw David Kleynhans also compete in the annual Kremetart One-day Stage Race on June 5.

Now he is back home, having travelled 3 350 kilometres in total on his bicycle in three weeks to raise awareness and to raise funds for the plight of the aged.

After leaving Cape Town, David stopped in Knysna for two days. On May 30, he continued his travels and arrived in Johannes-burg on June 2. From there he travelled to Louis Trichardt, arriving here on June 4.

Meeting up with David on June 5 during the Kremetart One-day Stage Race at Waterpoort, he looked relaxed and not even a bit exhausted. He went on to complete the race over a distance of 175 kilometres in a time of four hours and 56 minutes, only to start his return journey home the following day; he stayed over in Johannesburg on Monday.

David would have had a clean run on his bicycle from the country’s most southern point to its most northern point, had it not been for some bad weather. Heavy rains forced him to change his plans with the end almost in sight, hitching a lift from Worcester back to Cape Town.
