MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – Limpopo Dairy became the Louis Trichardt Cricket Club A-league champions for 2004, when they beat ICR Construction by 7 wickets on Saturday, July 10, on the A-field.
Limpopo won the toss and elected to field on a batting wicket.
ICR opener, Nardus Barnard (51), got his team off to a good start, in spite of losing two partners cheaply early in the innings. He was joined by Thabang Tsubane (23), who helped to take the total to 109 for 4 at one stage. Shaun O’Connor (10 not out) scored double figures for ICR, who finished with a total of 125 for 6 in their allotted overs. For Limpopo, Leon Fourie (2/20 in seven overs) and PW van der Merwe (2/23 in seven overs) bowled extremely well to keep the run-rate down.
The required target set for the Limpopo batsmen was never going to be enough and Leon Olwage (59 not out) made the most of the bowling to score freely. He was ably assisted by PW van der Merwe (12), Leon Fourie (13) and Robbie Janse van Vuuren (16). Limpopo comfortably passed the ICR total for the loss of only three wickets, with five overs to spare. For ICR, Shaun O’Connor obtained a measure of success, taking 2/12 in his seven overs.
The cricket club’s activities will resume toward the end of August and any players interested in joining the club, are welcome to contact Joubert Fourie at Tel 082 494 3532.
