Mpheni Home Defenders hammer Phadziri FC 4-0 in the final of the Mphekumatshi Soccer Challenge at Tshikota on Saturday.
Phadziri looked weary from the onset and never made any threatening moves. Their front-runner, Miyelani Khosa, was cautioned for obstruction on Aaron Lisoga in the early minutes of the game. Defenders' playmaker, Ndaedzo Mafheda, could not live up to his fans’ expectations, as he was tightly marked.
Phadziri enjoyed more ball possession, but they couldn't get into the penalty area of Defenders, due to the rock-solid defence. Defenders were cooling the ball down in the middle of the park, giving their opponents no chance to do as they pleased.
Malvin Mafhalela opened the score in the 16th minute after receiving a beautiful pass from Arron Lisoga. Defenders' second goal came in the 35th minute, when Mushe Lisoga dribbled past three Phadziri defenders in a row and scored easily to make the halftime score 2-0.
Defenders could have scored more than a dozen goals, had they managed to convert all their chances. Phadziri's striker, Londolani Munyai, missed a clear chance in the 60th minute. His team mate, Rotshidzwa Muravha, committed a similar blunder two minutes later.
Defenders put matters beyond doubt when Edwin “Mnini" Mulaudzi scored his team's third goal in the 77th minute. Mulaudzi hit the final nail into the coffin and completed his brace when he beat keeper Melton Ntshauba hands down with a ground cutter.
