Benny’s Care were crowned champions of Ndivhuwo Funeral Undertakers soccer competition when they beat Gogobole Bucs 5-4 in the final at Gogobole on Sunday.

The winner was determined by a penalty shoot-out after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in regulated time.

Benny’s approached the match like a house on fire, with their midfielders distributing some telling passes to the strikers. Bucs was strong in the far back and striking departments, but lacked cohesion in the middle of the park. The balls that threatened the defence of Bucs were ballooned from behind.

Benny’s deserved the victory. From the onset their midfielders were dictating terms and their strikers kept on unleashing rockets from outside the box. Lutendo Nndwambi of Bucs missed the ball and Mutshidzi Nemaxwi of Bennys received the ball and beat keeper Khongelani Mathonsi easily, to make half-time score 1-0.

In the early minutes of the second half, Elelwani Marubini made his presence felt. He unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box and the keeper of the opponents watched in disbelief when the ball crossed the goal line to equalise.

Tsie Nndwambi, Lutendo Mabasa and Thomas Nhlongo of Bucs and Marubini Manyane of Benny’s were booked for different infringements during the match.
