Madombidzha Celtic were crowned the champions of the Mununzu Newco tournament, after beating the much-feared Benny’s Care 2-1 in the final at Madombidzha on Sunday.
Benny’s were only good at the far back and their midfielders hesitated for too long and did not release the ball on time to the goal poachers. This sloppy performance put the defence under tremendous pressure. Celtic initiated some promising moves from the centre of the pitch but were denied a number of scoring opportunities by the solid defence of their opponents.
Zano Muleba of Benny’s and Thabo Mamburu of Celtic went into the referee’s book for different infringements.
Celtic threatened to score in the early minutes when Dakalo Nwanamidwa forced his way through the defence of their opponents before passing the ball to Oscar Mafunisa. His attempt missed the target by inches. Celtic pressed hard in search of goals and the players of Benny’s abandoned their positions and packed themselves at the far back.
Thabo Matuba scored Celtic's first goal in the 30th minute. He unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box and beat the keeper of Benny's easily.
In the second half, Roby Munonoka scored his team's second goal after he finished off a square pass from Shoni Leaka. Mutshidzi Nemaxwi of Benny’s forced his way through the defence of Celtics and released a rocket from outside the box to make the score 2-1.
